Focusing on the ideal of "intellectually developing the provinces" one of the most deeply rooted aspirations inherited by Turkish intellectuals from the late imperial era to the Republic this study examines the pioneering role of ITU in this historical mission.
Analyzing the universities' efforts to expand into Anatolia via the "University Weeks" organized by the institution, on a parallel plane with institutional steps like the People's Houses and Village Institutes, the work presents the endeavor of bringing science together with the public from a historical perspective. Prepared as a special contribution to ITU's 250th anniversary and standing as one of the first examples of the newly reactivated ITU Press's pocket book series, this book scrutinizes the dynamic relationship academia established with the provinces during periods of political crisis.
