Rooted in the Mühendishane-i Bahri-i Hümayun founded in 1773, Istanbul Technical University (briefly ITU) is celebrating its 250th anniversary. Within this long history, ITU, which was the only institution training engineers in the country for a long period, has made tangible contributions to the development and modernization of the nation through the works accomplished by the engineers it educated. Furthermore, it has pioneered the acquisition of new technologies and enabled the realization of numerous "firsts". The broadcasting of the "first" television transmissions and the "first" FM and stereo-FM transmissions in Turkey are significant contributions of ITU that have carried both technological as well as cultural and social impacts. This book has been prepared with the aim of documenting and telling the stories of how these contributions were realized, and to remember as well as remind others of the members of ITU who contributed to these fields over the years.
